Welcome to Poorman Bourbon.
This blog was a spontaneous creation following a
particularly difficult bourbon hunting day wherein I spent too much time
visiting my local liquor stores, only to come to the conclusion that the recent
bourbon boom has reached even small town Indiana.
I cannot afford the
exacerbated prices on things that used to be within reach. Today, I saw an $800
bottle of Weller full proof, and a $140 bottle of Henry McKenna 10 year. Both
excellent, I'm sure, but not within my budget.
So there exists a dilemma; for
great bourbon is great not because it is expensive, and has a newfound appeal to
the masses. It is great because it is the bourbon. It is great because it is,
literally, the American spirit. And it is great because it it made with love, by
distillers across this great land. And because of that, it deserves praise.
This
blog is a celebration of the process, creativity, and product that is bourbon.
Moreover, it is a blog about the bourbon which is available to the
"everyperson," including those rare splurges for the special events in life.
I
will hunt for bourbon in my area, and review that which I find. If I travel,
I'll check out the local shops, and review any discoveries. If I receive a
bourbon-based birthday gift, I'll review that too. Finally, and importantly,
these opinions are my own.
My reviews will be partially my thoughts on taste, smell, etc. but mostly, is the bourbon I am drinking worth the cost of the bottle? Thus, 5/5 will not mean the best tasting bourbon, but rather a bourbon that strikes a balance between quality and cost. That's my attempt, anyway. We'll see how it goes.
Quite simply, I enjoy the drink, and will enjoy sharing my thoughts
with readers. Come one, come all.
Raise your glass.
