It is, in my opinion, one of the most aptly-named bourbons. It's not gimmicky, superfluous, or layered with irony. It's just kind of what I would expect my grandfather to enjoy after a hard day of farming.
It's also one of those bourbons that you should be able to find fairly easily at your local liquor store for around $20. I picked up my bottle at a Meijer.
From the "Bonded" categorization prominently displayed on the bottle, we know this was a product of a single season's grain, and was aged for at least 4 years in a U.S. government supervised warehouse.
For my money, this is one of the hardest working bourbons out there. It's good neat, on ice, or in your favorite cocktail.
Smells like: Maple syrup
Tastes like: Vanilla, carmel
Bite: Just a bit of bite on the backend. But not overpowering. Just a subtle reminder that it's there.
To me, this is a good solid addition to a bar. Maybe not award winning but, many times, that's not the best kind of recognition. As a wise man once said: "Work hard in silence. Let success make the noise." Seems a fitting axiom for this particular bourbon.
